AVOCA.
FOXES NUMEROUS.
Foxes are very numerous in this dis
trict at present, and many have been seen
within a few miles of the town It is
feared that the lambs will suffer se-
verely from the depredations of Reynard
during the season, .as' owing ;to -the' dry
weather, feed of all kinds is scarce, and
the 'fox.es will bo very ravenous."
LANDMARK BURNT DOWN.
An old'landmark, in the shape'of the:
building' known as the Vicfe-Regal Hotel;
situated between Avoca'and Moonambel,
has' been removed by fire on Saturday
last. Mr 'C. Murdoch, who; owns the
propertv. was .absent from'the district.
whilst'MTs Murdoch‘ was atMoonambel
at the time of the. outbreak, and the.
cause is therefore’' ‘a mystery. Tlv
hotel was. delicensed a few months. ago,
but the Murdoch family had resided on
the' premises. ■ It is stated; that there is
a small : ;insurance oh the building,shut,
t!ie amount has not transpired.: ;■ •••
