CHURCH.
RE'OPENING SERVICES.
The Xcd-slrcci Methodist Church, to
which extensive enlargement have been
made, was re-o period ou Sunday last. A
rfedieatory prayer meeting was held iu the
now- portion of thu building at 7 a.m., and,
(or such an early (tour, was well attended.

were much appreciated, and hi presume© on
the occasion was a sourco'of gratification to
his old friend.
In tho afternoon a musical service was
held, conduc-ter(. by the pastor of tta church,
thu Rev. J. C. Martin. The choir, under
the direction of 3Ir. W. Jorrott, with Mr.
W. J. Hnow at the organ, rendered the
anthems "lift shall dwell in tho land,"
" There is a green hill," and " I am Alpha
and Ornega." Two quartettes wero sung by
Miuo Jorrott and Wilcox, and Messrs. L.
Jarrott and'F. Gould, tho first-taing "God
is a -Spirit," and tho second "Shepherd of
Soul." M so lot, Mr. W. JelTriec contri
buted "Calvary"; Itev. J. O. Martin gen
dered "Nazareth"; and Mr. Jurrott song-
"David singing tafore Saul." Hie congre
gation joined heartily in tlie hymns, and iu
the To Deum, tho massive singing of which
was one of the mot expressive feature of
the service. Tho collections for tho day,'
which are to ta devoted to tlie Building
Fund, amountol to about £10.
Tta enlargem'Tfit, which has taken the
form of transept added to tho eastern end
of the church, will provide odditonal ac
commodation for 150 persons, thus making
a total seating capacity of 500. The Interior
of the old portion of tho church has been
runovaterl, and brought into harmony with
tta new. A now system of lighting has
tacn introduced which, whilo increasing the
illuminating capacity has added greatly to
the beauty of tlie building. Tho organ and
choir have been removed to a position im
mediately under tho pulpit, which will ma
terially increaso their cffoctu'cness. Now
roofing and a graceful epiro liavo given an
rmpewng appearance to tho exterior of the
building, while the removal of a number of
