MULWARR1E
HEW8,
GENERAL NEWS AND NOTES.
MULWABBIE, January 14.
I was one of a party of three, with
-a cart and two horses, which went out
some time back, to try a bit ot coun-
' try come 30 odd miles from Hospital
Bocks, south-west of Lake Giles. A
nigger named "Gungi" haid ioW us of
it some time ago. He and his gin and
piccaniny guided us to' the belt, which
: certainly contained some fine looking
reefe and. lodes,' but not a color at
. gold could we find. We had to leave
• the cart in the eand and pack the
horses across country, and finally w»re
driven back to water, with no
; Bults. We were backed by a local .syndicate
and on returning to Mul weary
;
came out this way some seven tnilss
west. Myself and mate had been Jaare
before, but could not stop for want
of water. One of the party
Kearas) found three fair gnaima holes
and -then a fine looking xepf, aad »ftnr
a day or two we napped-gold.

"Great
Winara" G.M.L. is situated
c
«ome seven miles from Mulwarrie, arid q
some Bix miles from Davyhurat. ; It is
apparently the Same Jiite of country as t
Davyhurst, and has been visited spasmodically
by prospectors
fnom both
towns for some years past, but up to
recently only afow colors of gold had
been secured in the locality. A trench

The i«ef has been sunk on in an un
derlay shaft to a depth of some 70ft., |
and varies in width from 3ft. to 10ft. |
The ore laying in
laminatioas,
and
algo containing antimony and biemutfc
another
-metal occurring in it being
very much like telluride of gold. 0»e
report sent in by some persons a little
time
back,
said that there were i00
tons of telluride ore at gcase.
TMe,
"however,
was not correct, and
was
never claimed to be by anyone connected
with the mine. The real facts were
that Mr Hblyroyd (of tdlurid? fame)
had visited the Bhow, and aB the met al
in "the'etone was so like telluride, be
had tested it, and found traces of
lurium of gold in it. Twenty tons were
put through the State battery for
a
: return
of
9Jdwt. per
%oB over the
plates, S^dwt. in the tailingB (of whiek
78 per cent. waB extracted), and 9dwt.
3gr. in the slimee.
The
stone
was
taken in starting the shaft and everything
went in. The next parcel of S4
tons, although" apparently better, was
not so satisfactory, going 7dwt. over
• the plates and Sdwt. in tailings and
1 5.6 in
slimes.
As
everything
was
again
taken in sinking (uq to 10ft.

places) it
proves that -be
"Winara"
would
pay
handsomely,
worked on & big scale.
There
are
about "100 tons at grass at present,
and it is proposed to crush as soon a*
the Government mill gets going again, •
by which time (three or four weeks) ;
there should be : near 200 tone ready
On the' south end "Messrs. F. Church

Mr. Lamib, of the "Waihi," vieittd
the "Great Winara" last week,
and
was so favorably impressed with
sts
possibilities
that
he. has asked the

syndicate
for thsir
terms.
Messrs. Ilea and Elliot, juat arrivd
from ffifjghis and Daniels' find, cxprees
opinion that the "Great Winara,"
though althoOgh of lowrer grade,, with suck a
splendid body , of/atone and a mill so
handy,
has -advantages which makes
it equal
if not better, than .the fiad
mentioned. Of course time will show;
