Mr Zox was a little capti-us over the fact
that the Old Age Commission pays its lay
members 10s a sitting. “ None of the Charities
Commission,” he says, “wore so extravagant.’’
People who go np to Nhill and Horsham (says
an Age contributor) hear a story .about the
Charities Commission which possibly 'Mr Zox
never beard. The commission were going
through the country hospitals quietly, so as to
nee them in their normal state. They had done
Nhill, and were going on to Horsham, and a
wire was sent; on to the Horsham hotel, order
ing prirate rooms and a tip-top dinner tor Hr
E. L. Zox end his party. The Horsham landlord
eyed the order dubiously, and before replying,
wired to the Nhill hotel asking, “What is the
E. L. Zox troupe—are they safe?” Mr Zox
nearly went into hysterics when he siw tho
