WOMEN'S WAR
MEMORIAL.
With regard to the Women's War Memorial,
the Lord Mayor of Adelaide (IMr.
Flaidt Moulden) submitted to the - tv
Council ,on Monday the following minute,
accompanied by a plan, for approval. Conmoderation
of the proposal had been given
by the market and parks committee, which
recommended its adoption: -"Last yevx
the council granted a site in Pennington
Park East for the Women's War Memorial.
At that time no decision had been
come to as to the exact form the .memorial
should take-, but after obtaining advice
from other bodies, who are erecting
similar memorials elsewhere, the accompanymg
plan is now submitted for approval.
I have discussed this on the spot
with representatives" of the committee of
lie -fund and the Town Clerk and Citr
Gardener, and this plan embodies certaj
modifications on that originally submitted
by the committee that appeared dcsirabl-.-,
to avoid, aa far as possible,' interfering
with the present design of the garden. The
carrying out of the work in the plan submitted
will involve -doing away with a patn
leading from Avenue road westerly to the
gate opnosite the Cathedral, urhich path is
very little used, and the removal of ofie
ailantbus and two elm trees. One of the
latter, however, is already partly decayed
and would soon have to be removed in any
case. I recommend that the plan submitted
be "approved, the work be carried
out to the approval of our officers, the
whole expense, of course, being met. by
fie committee of the fund."
