CALL TO READERS
Tribune.
FesTfvfil
Action NOW
essential
The success of the 1954 Tribune Festival
Will be measured byi
• The number of new
readers won.
• The number of new
tellers organised.
0 The amount of finance
raised for Tribune.
• The number of people
who attend the Fair, Concert
and Picnic, and the enjoyable
time they have.
• The quantity and variety
of 'goods made and
donated to the Fair.
9 The consistency with
which work to improve sales
and finance is carried on
after the Festival.
Report to Committee
ensure success In these fields—to
achieve these targets . . .
EVERY PARTY MEMBER MUST
DECIDE NOW TO GO INTO ACTION
—REAL, PLANNED, DELIBERATE
ACTION.
Reports to the Tribune Festival Committee
last week showed some—but
by no means a majority of—members
In Branches and Sections aware of
this situation.
For instance, for the first two
months in the current three months
Bnulation Campaign, sales had
tMreased by only 200 of the 850 tarmt.
East Sydney, Sutherland and
Canterbury Sections are the only
three to have passed their targets,
and their sales account for almost
ibe whole of the ZOO increase.
On the other hand, South Sydney,
Balmain and West Sydney are down
145, which almost cancels out the
fine efforts by the former three.
Only a few Branches have submitted
to the Sydney District through
their Sections the names of elected
Popular Sellers.
Those who have are:
• Waterloo—Jack (Blank)
Matraville—Madge O'Grady
0 King's Cross—John Mclsaac
Darlinghurst—Karen Winter
Crown—Bill Fitzpatrick
Woolloomooloo—Jim Hay
Street 2—Tom Falzon
0 Street 1—Ron Siddons (The Man
in the Sports Shirt)
Deep—Tom Suttie
Earlwood—Ron Morrison
0 Campsie—Stan Rust
Similarly, few if any have sent in
finance collected by penny votes for
their Popular Seller. This is urgent.
Meanwhile, 114 Tribune Honor
Badges have been presented to those
with sales of 12 or more, and 116
other names have been submitted.
Examples of the spirit that is needed
for the success of the 1954 Tribune
Festival are to hand for others to
follow.
One is a splendid gesture In the
spirit of Socialist Emulation by Jim
Laut of the Newcastle District.
Jim has donated a splendid tray
to the Sydney District Committee,
which Intends to use It to good advantage
during the Festival.
The spirit of Emulation in this
gesture is demonstrated by the fact
that on latest reports Newcastle Ib
leading Sydney on a challenge for
results In the Emulation Campaign.
Branch holds Concert
NEWTOWN BRANCH is preparing
to hold a concert during the second
week in October—to stimulate cultural
activity and unearth talent for the
Concert to be held on the night of the
Tribune Fair.
A display of goods already made and
donated by members and friends will
be on display at the Concert, to inspire
others to get busy with goods for the
Fair.
This is considered a splendid idea
which should popularise the Fair and
draw more people into production that
will make it the greatest Tribune Fair
to date.
BRADFIELD SECTION also reports
e proposal to hold a preliminary Concert
in that area.
The Fair Committee wants to hear
from other Sections, and appeals to
ail to get their production organisers
working.
Here are a few details AND appeals
relating to other highlights of the
Festival :
• PICNIC—National Park.
The picnic Committee this year is
making a special drive to get factory
teams to compete in the Tug-o-War,
Volley Ball and other sports.

of
National groups as well as worker
trams will contest the Tribune Volley
Ball championship.
Dancing and singing groups will also
compete for honors at the Picnic.
Footrace contests for all sections
from tiny tots to pensioners will be on.
The Picnic Committee Invites Individuals
and teams to send in challenges
now.
petitions.
Prizes will be awarded in all com-
Guessing competitions carrying
prizes of watches, a string of pearls and
a £5 open order on a big Sydney store
will be run, the proceeds from which
will count as votes for Popular Sellers.
CONCERT.—
The script for what is likely to be
the best Tribune Concert ever is in preparation
now.
It will include sketches, dances,
songs, and other stage items of the
highest order in humor, drama and
histrionics.
FAIR—
It has been decided that stalls this
year will be specialised. That is, separate
stalls for vegetables and fruit, jams
and groceries, toys, cakes and sweets,
kiddies clothes, etc., etc.
The 1954 Tribune Festival will be
held from November 19 to 28.
That is far enough ahead to ensure
success—provided all Party members
and supporters get busy immediately.
. It is not so far ahead that there is
time to waste.
The key is ACTION
NOW.
