f.ast. Tuesday night the Kalgoorlie
Football Club held a smoke social at the
Caledonian ilt?ll. and a most happy ga-
'hcrin.g it was. A long list of toast:;
and musical items was gone through, and
everything went off in a pleasant man-
ner. The patron of the ciuii, llie .Mayor,
was in attendance, and i it i he course of
a bright, speech, said that "he consider
ed the Kalgoorlie Football Club the most
sporting club, in the truest sense, of all
the clubs on the fields, and it was for
the reason that the members played for
the pure love of the game that, lie gave
them his support." The Mayor was pre
sented with a beautifully-framed group
photo of the team, and in thanking' the
members for their present he said he
hoped to he able lo inscribe, at the sea
son's end. the words underneath the
group — "Kalgoorlie, premiers of 11)05."
Tlu gathering broke up at midnight, all
being well .satisfied with the entertain
ment provided. Mr. A. S. Henderson
ably presided at the piano.
The Pushful Pilmer Again.
Corporal Pilmer tpul his busy men were
on the look out, last Sunday at the
gates of the Kalgoorlie and Boulder Re
serves, for the purpose, of placing ob
stacles in the way of any officers of the
Association who might have been trying
to induce sportsmen to contribute to the
up-keep of the game. Pihner didn't, re
lish the idea of a charge being made at
all. whilst Jones, one of the smaller fry
of the genus John Hop, said to the
G.F.A. secrelary, "Yon must not take
up a collection outside tlu gate at all;
t ake your boxes" inside." Boulder people
to-day have prepared n pill for Pilmer
and the pimps. A solicitor lias been
consulted, and he states that, the police
have no authority whatever to dictate as
to whether the turnstiles will be used or
not when a collection is being taken.
T.ast Monday night. Mr. .Stanley denoun
ced vehemently the action of the inter
fering police, and advised the Association
to appoint, a committee lo wait, on (.lie
inspector of police with a view to ex
plaining t lie position, and also for the
purpose of obtaining protection from t lie
over-zealous members of the force. A
motion was carried to that effect.
$
