PERSONAL NEWS.
Mrs. J. Hartley, of Storr-street, Ade
laide, who-died on Thursday at the age
of 91 years, arrived in South Australia
in 1851. Mrs. Hartley had had four
sons and one daughter. There were grand
children at her graveside, representing
each of her-five children, namely, Messrs.
John Hartley, Frank Hartley, James
Hartley, Walter Hartley, and Mrs. E.
[S]eaman, the only daughter. Mr. James
Hartley is the only surviving member of
the family. Mrs. E. [S]eaman was buried
I only eight weeks ago., Mrs. Hartley was
connected with the Methodist Church' for
over 70 years, and daily read her Bible.
"Grandma" Hartley was loved by all far
I and_near. The Rev. W- H. Cann remarked
at her funeral that she "was one of the
old school of Christians, a woman of
integrity and conscientious." She was
born at Halifax, Yorkshire, and was mar
ried at 20 years of age. Mr. J. Hartley,
I who lives at Goodwood Park, for years
daily called to see his mother on his
way home from his employment. Her
grandsons responded to the call of coun
try in the war, and some of them made
the supreme sacrifice.
Mr. Joel Collins, who died on Saturday,
for 41- years -had followed farming piur
saflts near Lillimur. Mr. Collins was
born at Meadows, South Australia, 58
years ago. and when a lad of 17 he went
to Victoria with his parents. Mr. Col
lins was well known and highly respected.
He leaves a widow and four children. His
aged mother also survives.
Mr. John Fry. who died at Woodville
last week, arrived in the State 72 years
ago. He was engaged for over 40 years on
the Port railway. On the construction of
the line and then in maintenance, work as
ganger. ' He" travelled in the first train be
tween Adelaide and the Port. While in the
service he never lost a day's work, and
was never late. He married Miss Sargeant
63-years ago, and had resided at Woodville
eve rsince. He leaves a widow; six chil
dren, 35 grandchildren, and 36 great-grand- I
children.
