. Sundry difficulties are almost in variably
incidental to puppy rearing, among which 1

parasites and skin affections. Brought
up separately under the charge of t ti ought -

or two pets, ihe young things thrive best,
escaping many of the ills which befall fcho.^

of novice do®, &c., in competitions at
the leading shows. In the spring the

upon their coats for show condition. can
be benched to greater advantage than in
the autumn, when they have, just come

f, ,Major Richardson pointed oat
though the French army trains dogs
for messenger purposes. it is doubtful
whether it would be possible to use them
extectiyely in active work on service. He
has himself given up training them for
tins purpose, believing that it would not
be safe to trust them with messages in
war time. One of the most interesting
pictures winch Major Richardson showed
was an ambulance _ dog -retrieving" a dog
killed m the fighting line. Getting into
the practical work of active service, Major
luchardson showed some of the dogs which
xie nas observed in, or suppplied for re
cent foreign campaigns. There are 'two
dogs which he sent on the Abor expedi
