Murder of
Hungarian
Communist
The fnllwwing' cable message
gives a description of the murder
>••]' a Hungarian comrade:
BUDAPEST.
"The recent strike at Pecz, where
more than 1000 miners stayed underground
and refused food for several
days till their demands had been partially
granted, is now alleged to have
been organised by Soviet emissaries,
according to a statement issued by
'.he Hungarian police.
"Soviet agents, it is stated, tried to
resuscitate the long-prohibited Hungarian
Communist Party, but the police
arrested three ringleaders after
a struggle, during which one of the
suspects -endeavored to shoot at the
detectives, but was overcome in time.
"During the police examination, one
of the arrested men treed himself
from his shackles and jumped through
a window in an effort to escape, but
fractured his skull and died.
"A search of his rooms brought to
light documents which proved he had
recently arrived in Hungary from Russia.
He had given, his name as Ludwig
Horwath, but it was established
that he was Otto Hoffmann, who played
a prominent part in the Communist
regime in Hungary in 1919, later
fleeing to Moscow. On his return to
Hungary he was sentenced to five
months' imprisonment and again went
to Moscow after being released."—
"Sun," Nov. 3.
To rid himself of "shackles" and
jump through a window whilst surrounded
by police during an "examination,"
is surely an exceedingly clumsy
invention to cover up the murder of
this comrade by the Fascist Hungarian
police. Comrade Rakosi, a celebrated
revolutionary, is in the hands
of these murderous monsters.
