SACRED CONCERT AT CHALMERS

- At Chalm ers .Ghurch oil'Thursday evening
the choir/asasted by several.friends,.gave
a sacred concert and organ recital. The
entertainment' vvas one of several which
have " been organised with the object • of
establishing a choir fund, and each one has
met with the success which was only the
just. reward. of the. untiring efforts those
concerned have put forth. For last night's
concert a1 programme, consisting of good
and attractive music was carried out in
the presence of.a full audience. Mr.'L.
W/ Yemm, .the organist, played three solos,
"Grand solemn march in JB flat" (Smart),
"Minuet and Trio (Hoyte), and "Bourre"
(Cotsford Dick): He also acted as accom
panist and musical director. Mr. Kugel
berg played the-'cello' selections "Romance"
(Spolir): and "Air" (Brahms), with organ
accompaniments.. Solos were contributed
by - Miss Rouchetti, "The/ gift of rest"
(Cowen) ; Miss O. Nienaber, Eternal rest"
!(Piccblomiiii); "Stars" '(Leoni), Master
Abbby; "Still is thenight" (Gounod),. Mr.
D. Eunson; "Man of sorrows" (Adams);
Mr.-C. Barker) arid "A dream of Paradise,"
Mr. F._ L. Robertson. Misses Nienaber
arid M. Brown and Messrs.Tllingworth and
Robertson sang. Novello'a arrangement of
the quartet "God save the King," and the
choir rendered the anthem, "The day Thou
gavest, Lord" (Rev. H. H.-Woodward,
M.A.). The programme was heartily re
eeived.
Sir,Arthur Lawley (Governor of West
'Australia),, accompanied by Mr. G. Parker
(his private secretary), left Fremantle by
the .mail steamer Rome for the eastern
States . on Thursday. He expects to be
absent three weeks, during which period
the Chief -Justice will act as the Governor's
deputy. The object of the visit has.not
been disclosed* but it is understood to be
