MARYBOROUGH.
During the course of the thunderstorm
which raged during the early part of Fri
day considerable damage was done to
crops throughout the district. At Ade
laide Lead the mailman (Mr Dillon) had
an unpleasant experience in crossing the
creek while carrying the mail to the rail
way station. The fast-rushing flood water
swept the horse off its feet, and over
turned the buggy, and its occupants. The
mailman and telegraph ope
rator (who was returning to Melbourne),
had unenviable time. The mail was
lost; as also was Mr Duggan's luggage.
The low-lying country is underwater, and
much damage has been done to fencing.
Peculiarly enough, while the downpour
was being experienced at Majorca, hay
cutting was in full swing at Rodborough
at 9 o'clock on Friday morning, the rain
not having reached there.
Fairly heavy rain, has fallen during the
post three days, the record up to Sun
day night being 2.85 inches.
