The match between the All-England Eleven
and the Australian Eleven was commenced
on the Melbourne oval this morning. The
Englishmen iron the loss and elected to bat,
sending in Barlow and C. T, Studd Spo'fforth
opened to Barlow from the pavilion end with
a maiden, Palmer doing likewise to Studd.
Barlow opened his account with a single; he
then got two braces and drcuo Palmer to the
chains—10 up, all off Barlow; but Studd
at length cut Spofforth for a brace, Garrett
failing to stop it. He aftoiwards placed the
same howler for another brace, and Barlow
cut the Demon uppishly fur a brace, twenty
appearing. Studd uow cut Palmer high in
the air towards square leg for 3, and drovo
Spofforth for 4, Massic failing to stop jit.
Palmer now clean bowled Studd, the
board showing 1—14—2S.
Leslie filled the breach, and Barlow put 1
from Spofforth very close to Bannerman at
point which he failed to cateh; 30 appeared
by Leslie driving Spofforth to the off for a
triplet, the same batsman lifted Palmer to
square-leg for a like number, and then lost
his partner, Barlow, who was bowled by
Palmer. 2—14—35.
