Deeming- in Adelaide.
A gentleman who has been living in Aus
tralia since 1S67, and is now residing in Ade
laide, informs us that he met Deeming in
Adelaide in the year 1S82. He was then a
plumber living here wish his wife and two
young children. Our informant says:-"I
had some transactions with him in Melvin's
auction room. As far as I know he lived
somewhere in Pirie-street. At that time
Deeming was a stoutly built man about 5 ft.
7 in. in height, with sandy moustache, strong
chin, and fair complexion. lie was a good
man to speak, but I did not think him straight
forward. He said he had acted as steward and
engineer on several vessels. He left Adelaide
to take a publichcuse in Kapunda or some
where in the country, and I never heard of
him again until I was in Queensland in 1SS6,
when I heard of him at Bundaberg under the
name of Williams.
"The man Ward, who sailed for South
Africa in 1SS8, is not Deeming, I am con
vinced. I came over from Western Australia
with Ward in 1S77. He was something like
Deeming, but not so tall. ,Ward was a boot
maker by trade, but became a general dealer.
I knew nim from '77 to 'S2 in Port Adelaide.
He was married in the Port while I knew him,
I lost the run of him about 'S2 or 'S3. I be
lieve Deeming must now be about 52 years of
age."
