STATE COAL MINE.
INTEREST IN POWLETT.
MELBOURNE, June 21.
•This afternoon the Premier of South, i
Australia. (Mr. "Verran) and'thc Attorney- j
General< [ of that State — .(Mr. Denny)-were — re- [
ceived at afternoon tea hy the members of L
the State> Ministry-. The disputed Terri- i
tory question was i nformall}--discussed. Mr. i
Verran saw the Minister of Mines (Mr. i
McBride) and made a number of enquiries j
_ rdine the State coal-mine at Powlett
"We are greatly interested in the Powlett
field," said Mr. Verran, -'particularly as we
have a coal mine of our own at Leigh
Creek."
"Did you make any enquiries regarding
whether" South Australia-might obtain coal
from Powlett?"
"That question was. referred io," admittcd
Mr. Verran. "But no definite proposal
Was made. It is recognised that it is
too early to make any definite arrangement.
-but the question may be found "
worthy of' consideration on some future
occasion. Apart from that, however, we
are deeply interested in the progress of the
Powlett field."
