Hindmabsh y. Kent.
This matoh was played on the north end of
the Oval, and with the result that was generally
expected—the defeat of the Kents. The Hind-r
marsh team went firat to the wiobets. Their
first wicket did jnot fall nntil 25 runs had
been made, but with the addition of another
run the second man retired. The score was
raised to 52 before the third man was settled, and
the next six batsmen were disposed of for an
average of abont 7 runs. The last wicket, how
ever, was kept up until a score had been added
to the figures, which were raised to 115. Arthur
played a splendid innings for 52 runs,. batting
freely throughout. He made six couples, seven
triplets, and one 4. Norman played steadily
for 20, which contained 3 threes; end
Teakle, who was not out, batted well for
10. Cross came off very well with the ball,
securing the best average with four wiokets for
23 runs. The Kent men played much more
evenly than the Hindmarsh team, who without
Arthur would have cut a very different figure.
Torode's 20 was obtained by careful play,
Shawyer quickly rattled up his 19, and the other
principal scorers batted well. Arthur was the
most successful trundler, with three wickets for
12 runs. The following are the scores
