THE INCOMPETENT "POMMY."
It's about time the Railway Department
relaxed its strenuous endeavors
to make profits to swell the State's coffers
and directed some of its energy to
improving the service. That this is becoming
imperative is borne out by the
experience of two Fremanteleites, who,
last Sunday, went to visit some friends
in Maylands. They wanted to attend
some service in Perth that night, and
decided to catch the quarter to seven
train from Maylands. When they
reached the ticket office they found it
suixounided- by a crowd struggling for
tickets. They had five minutes to
spare, yet offirng to the palpable mud-
ling of the "pommy" ticket clerks
they were not served in time to catch
the train. They felt like jumping
aboard without tickets, but were deterred
by reason of the fact that upon
arrival they -would have had to pay as
coming from Midland Junction. Mismanagement
of this description is extremely
annoying, and we trust that to
save a repetition of such an exasperating
experience the Railway Department
will place competent ticket-clerks
in all offices.
