FOOTBALL.
AUSTRALIAN GAME.
A match was played at Guildford on
the Reserve on Wednesday afternoon
last, between & local team aod one from
Foy and Gibson's.
The game was a
most exciting one,
and at different
stages of the game some good play was
witnessed!
The game resulted in a
win for the visitors by 3 points, the
scores beihg—Foy and Gibson, 1, goal
7 behinds ; Guildford, 1 goal 5 'oehinds.
The Guildford team is rather a heavy
one, while
Foy
and
Gibson's is
a
much lighter team, and showed themselves
to be superior in "tricky" play.
Want of practice
was
very
much
noticeable amongst the Guildford.
It is very satisfactory indeed to note
that
interest is being taken in the
Wednesday
afternoon
matches.
A
short time ago it was spoken of as a
certainty that Midland Junction and
Guildford would be in possession of a
g jod team.
So far little interest seems
to have been taken in this direction in
Midland.
It only requires a few enthusiasts
to take the initiative, and the
club will,
undoubtedly,
be
formed
within a very short time.
We have the
material, why not use it ?
If a. full
team cannot be picked in
Midland,
surely the Guildford club would combine,
and therefore make a very good
representative
team^
^ad I
might
venture to say, give the sRurday team
a good "go."
Now then supporters of
the "grand old game," 'try it.
Since the above was Written an advertisement
has been received from
Guildford, calling a meeting, to be
held at the Rose and Crown hotel, on
Monday evening next.
The Midiand Junction will play the
Ports this afternoon, on the Midland
reserve. Midland will be chosen from
the following—Abbott (capt), Jones
(2), Plunkett, Hovyell, Gregson; Hardy,
Smart, Walsh 1 , Robertson (2); Bowen,
Turnbull, Wilson, France, Shanahan,
Cummins, Osborne, Watts,' Jecks,
Barker, Coram, Stephens, Stephenson,
Fryer, Butt, Jasper, King.
A meeting of the Midland Club was
held on Wednesday evenih'g last,' when
a discussion took, place as to the advisability
of abandoning the training
room on account of the lack of interest
taken it it, and it was decided to leave
the matter stand over until next meeting,
which is to be held at the Midland
Junction hotel on June 7.
A meeting of the Junior Football
Association was held at Perth on
Thursday evening last, the local delegates
(Messrs R; Crosbie and Jamieson)
were present. The protest committee
dealt, with the protest entered by
Midland Junction kgainst Railways on
the grounds that the latter did play a
member of a disqualified club, through
having not paid a fine inflicted by the
Association, The protest was upheld
and the match awarded to Midland
Junction. The delegate of the Railways
tabled a notice of appeal to the
Senior Association, so it now remains
to be seen what view that body takes
on the matter.
