NEW PRESIDENT AT
MOTHERS' UNION
For the first time since her elec
tion as president of the Mothers'
Union, Mrs. J. J. Booth presided at
a meeting of the council at the Chap
ter House yesterday, when the year's
work .was reviewed. No annual meet
ing would be held, It was explained,
because of war conditions.
During the past 12 months 125 new
members were enrolled, bringing the
total membership for the diocese of
Melbourne to 2563, while the num
ber of branches increased to 110.
Members continued to "visit, hospitals,
and more than 3800 books and maga
zines were contributed to the Women's
Hospital.
Newly elected members of the coun
cil, who were welcomed by Mrs.
Booth, were the vice-president (Mrs.
H. Barkley) and Mesdames Heath-
cote, Fenwlck Brown) Barrett, Mont-
gomerie, Kent and Miss Webb.
