Robbery at Trades Hall.
EARLY MORNING ALARM.
At 5 a.m. yesterday Russell-street police
wore advised by Mrs. Catherine Laugh-
ton, charwoman, employed at the Trades
llall, Lygon-street, Carlton, that while
working there she had heard footsteps on
the balcony of the building. Immediately
Senior Constable Scales, Constables F. J.
M'CaBker, Unjohn and other officers went
acrbBS and surrounded the Trades Hall. An
investigation inside showed that the offices
of the Fodder and Fuel UDion bad- been
entered and several drawers forced open.
A search was made throughout the build
ing, but no trace of the thief or thieves

keys were used to gaiu access to tho office.
Subsequently Mr. G. M'Pherson, secre
tary of the union, examined the office, and
found that £51 in cash had been stolen.
Plain Clothes Constable G. Portingalc and
VV. H. Harper are inquiring into the mat
ter. '
