ELECTIONS IN
WESTRALIA
Labor Again in
- Power
PERTH, Sunday. — After holding
the reins of office in West Aus
tralia for the past ten years,
Labor was again returned- with
scarcely any change at the Legis
lative Assembly elections yester-
day. inirty-elght ot tlie 51) seats
were contested, eleven Labor and
one Nationalist candidates being
returned unopposed. The civilian
count to-night was almost com
plete, and final results now
await the servicemen's votes.
All members of the Cabinet, in
cluding the Premier (Mr. Wlll-
cock) were re-elected, and the
Leader of the Opposition (Mr. A.
F. Watts) and National party
Leader (Mr. Ross McDonald),
are aiso- in comiorcame posi
tions. .
Labor, may lose Forrest, pre
viously held by Mr. E. J. Holman,
who to-night was 27 behind Mr.
G. C. Parke (Independent).
. At the same time Labor may
win ' Avon, where W. F. Telfer,
1316,:, at present is leading .the
retiring Country- party member
(I. G. Boyle), 1308, as well as
Greenough, . where progressive
totals are:— J. V. Newton - (Lab.) ,
293 ; W. Patrick (C.P;, returned
unopposed at 1939 election), 210.
In the last Parliament Labor
held 27 seats, Country party 12,
National party 8, and there were
three Independents.
The public showed little In
terest in the election, but under
compulsory voting ' there was
about an 80 ' per cent, civilian
poll. -
