HEW SOUTH WALES.
Sydney, January 15.
The Manager of the Buili Company tried to
engage miners recently arrived by the Northampton,
but failed, the arrivals having been I
informed of the state of affairs.
During a north-east squall this afternoon a
boat containing three men was swamped and
capsized-at Balmain, and William Bell, sotfrif
Pilot Bell, was drowned.

Mr. Augustus Morris has accepted-the Secretaryship
of the Exhibition Commission.
Application has been made by Baboore Fees,
on behalf ef Johann Maud Farina, Eau-de-
Cologne manufacturer, for spaoe. and he intends
to construct a fountain for perfumed water.
Steps will probably be taken to connect the Exhi
bition by a branch line with the railway terminus.
Attheannnal meeting of the Royal Agricultural

in two minutes. AU the cargo eifcept fifteen
tons of rice was destroyed, but the engines can
be saved.
The General Assurance Company has declared
a dividend for the half-year of 7£ per cent.
