Last Saturday afternoon Dr. Mannix
blessed and laid the foundation Btone of a
now primary school in Forabfll-ioad, Sand-

new convent, which is to cost" £5666 ad

Order, wliicn has 34 convents in Victoria
and teaches over 6660 children. It has

of the Bishop of Durham, tho original
Reverend Cuthbert Clare" in "Toss of the
d'Urbervillea." 'The bishop's father was
the . original Clare's father in Thomas
Hardy's striking novel. The lato Bishop
'Moule was the youngest son of the late
Rev. Henry Moule, vicar of Fordington St.
George, near Dorchester, the country whicii
Mr. Thomas Hardy made so well known in
his series of novels. Ordained in 1867, he
became curate to his father, and later
examining chaplain to the Bishop of Liver
pool; first principal of Ridley Hall, Cam-
abridge, 1880-99; . Norrisian Proferaor of
Divinity in toe University, 1899-1001;- also
chaplain, both honorary and in-ordinary,
to Queen Victoria and King Edward.
Bwhop Moule won a great reputation as a
Biblical scholar, and wrote numerous valu
able works on religious subjects. "He was
offered and accepted the see of Durham in
1901, in succession to the famous Dr. YVest-
cbtt, his old friend. An Evangelical, ho
was popular among Nonconformists of his
diocese. Ho was born in December, 1841
He married Miss H. M. Elliott, and had
two daughters.
