TARIFF /COMPLAINTS.
Deputations to Government
MELBOURNE, May 18.
There is hardly a day that deputations
do not wait upon the Minister for Customs
(Mr. Tudor) in regard to the tariff. Some
business men ask for higher duties, and
others for lower imposts. Yesterday the
Minister received two deputations, one
from employers and employes engaged in
the borseehoe -nail -industry. These people
complain of iQie "present" duties'being Tar
too low. They stated that while in 1902
the imports 'were 565 cwt., and tie local
production was'-2,765 cwt.;. the respective
quantities in 1914 were 3,408 cwt., and 1,019-
cwt. • "
Mr. Tudor promised consideration of the
matter.
' The Minister also gave a similar nndertaking
in the matter of a.request- for a
&., or 40 per cent.", is fair too high.
