PROSECUTION OF TRADESPEOPLE.
WARBAGUL. Tuesday.
At Warragul court to-day, before
Mr. Harris, P.M., and Mr. M'Neil, J.P.,
several health prosecutions were heard.
Mr. Freeman, of the Crown Law depart
ment, prosecuted. The cases were insti
tuted by Inspector Eees, of the Public
Health department: and Inspector Lancas
ter. officer of the Warracul shire council.
William Jones,' grocer and secondhand
dealer, Warragul; was charged with having
failed to keep his premises in such a con
dition as cot to be a nuisance, - also with
having oatmeal, pepper and rice exposed
for sale not fit for human consumption.
Jones admitted previous convictions on
each charge in respect to these' premises
on 12th March. He was fined £5, with £1
1/ costs, on the first charge, and the £10
minimum fine Tor the second offence on
the second charge. Mr. Dunn appeared for
Jones.
J. E. Marrabel. butcher, Warragul, was
c-harged with not keeping his slaughter
yards in a cleanly condition. The in
spector's visit was made on llth October,
and defendant complained that the first
he knew of it was when he received a
summons last week, so that he was not in
a position to contradict or admit the in
spector's allegations. The case was held
to be proved, and defendant fined £1, with
£1 1/ costs. _
A. F. S. Wright, butcher, South Warra
gul, was similarly charged. Mr. Davine
appeared for defendant, and called the evi
dence of neighbors and frequent visitors
to Wright's premises to prove that the
place was not a nuisance. The bench
upheld their c-videnee, and dismissed the
information.
William Maichett, butcher, Warragul.
represented by Jlr. Dunn, was proceeded
against on a similar charge; but, as he bad
undertaken extensive improvements to his
premises since the inspector's visit, the
charge was withdrawn, on defendant un
dertaking to pay £1 1/ costs.
