CROP COMPETITIONS.
Judging at Beulah.
Yields of 18 to 20 Bushels.
BEULAlf, Monday. — The judging of
tlic crop and fallow competitions was com
pleted yesterday. The judge, Mr. T. Les
lie, of Dimboola, Stated that he was agree-
. ably smipriscd at the condition of the
wheat crops which lie had inspected. He
hnd'flot expected them to he as good con
sidering the very light rainfall. He
thought oil tlic whole the crops were
ahead of the Wimmora crops around the
Dimhoola district, and that Beulah ap
peared to lie better olf than any other
district lie bad visited this season.
Most of the crops judged were estimated
to average from 18 to 20 bushels pel' acre,
and wore singularly free from disease. 'The
cms were well filled with grain, and the
sample promised to be. excellent. These
crops are on light soil. Those on tlic
heavier ground arc not maturing as well.
T'-n hot weather experienced this" month,
and the absence of moistuiic. has had
the effect of ripening olT the wheat crops
and in many instances farmers havo com
menced stripping.
Results at Finley.
FJNLEY. Monday. — The judging of the
combined crop and fallow competition lias
been completed., niul Mr. \V. Waite wns
declnrcd the winner with a total of 245
points: Mr. A. IV". Ttilloch second, with
7?® Potts; and Mr. H. A. Hbrncinan
third, with 237 points. Although not
m the first three, Mr. JT. E. Cockayne
secmled the highest points for his crop,
n point ahead of Mr. Tulloeli, who scored
one point more than Mr. Wnilc.
