Aided bv a south-westerly, svind,. birds wheeled
aivay with terrific speed at Melbourne Gun
Llub shoot yesterday. Ilughlc Cairns missed
only one bird out ot nineteen In (be last three
sweeps, .ft. llalns (Beaufort) toon money -from
llirec cronts, and (I. Woodhurn, Cllvo Yfnrsti
(Ararat) and J. Holmes all showed fair form.

Sands, whose Urst-lwrrel kills brought rounds
of applause Irnm the naviliun. A small Held
of eight competed for the first four-bird sweep
stakes, and the only possibles were scored 'by
Sands, YVoodburn ami llalns. Sands was win
ner of first money. Hulns and YVoodburn di
vided second. Seventeen competed- for the sec
ond four-bird sweep. Sands, YVoodburn,
"Bourko" and T. Stewart lmd all shot well
In the first four rounds, ' hut they were not
equal to the birds they drew m liui fifth, and
all wont out. E. Kcelos and "Chin-lie" fell
out In the slxlh round, and loft "Fred," G.
Coffey and O. Marsh to divide.
For a miss-out swccpstnkcs, with four tinms
as attached trophies, nineteen look out nomina
tions. Nine were eliminated from the sweep-
stnkes 011 tho first round. The only competi
tors eligible for the money at thu close of
tho second round were A. YVutklns. J. YVittman,
"8011" Ilenin, T. E. Samls niuf If. llalns, mid
lor tho irophlca 11. Stuhhs. 1'. King, II. Calms,
F. A. Tubb and YVoodburn still remained 'in.
The jnoney prixe was divided hy Hcarii, YY'itt-
utun, llalns and Sands. Sands and Ilcnni divided
the trophy.
Twenty took past in -another miss-out sweep
stakes, with liams us attached trophies. Excel
lent shooting saw competitors going strongly
at thu close of the tilth round. A sequeuee
of misses In the sixth loft "Chnrlio," Holmes,
Cairns and "E.A.li," to divide Hie stakes, and
a ham apiece was taken hy T. E. Sands, F. A.
Tubb and J. Holmes. In the shoot off for tlic
fourth ham Sands was tho winner after tour
rounds.
In the next sweepstakes "Fred" came Into the
running again, and, with Cairns, YY'oodhurn and
"Charlie," shot to tlio division 011 the sixth
round.
I11 miss-out sweep off 80 and 33 yards, YVood-
' burn, llalns and Cairns shot nt their top form,
and divided at the, end of tlio fourth round,
