A VAN DRIVER'S DRINKS.
"About Seven or Eight the
Usual, Load."
Joseph Wise, 14 years, dealer, of Kerr-
street, Fitzroy, was charged in Colliug-
wood Court yesterday with, having been
found drunk while in charge of a horse
and vehicle, and had in his possession
a motor tyre and tube suspected to have
been stolen.
Constable Leach said that at 10 p.m.
on Wednesday, in Smith-street, ho saw
it horse and van swaying from one side
of the road to the other, and humping
against the kerbstones, lie stopped tiie
horse, and saw that the driver, defend
ant, was in a dmnken condition. In the
van he found the tyre and tube, which
defendant said he had bought from a"
woman in Melton for 2/.
Mr. Smith, P.M. (to defendant): How
many drinks did you have yesterday?
Defendant: Not more than usual.
Mr. Smith: ITow many is that? — About
seven or eight beers.
If"1' many does it lake to knock you
over? — Nine or ten.
Then you were on the border line?
Ou tho first charge defendant was

second charge was dismissed.
