COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
(To the Editor of The Journal).
—Yours,
etc.,
F. L. VEREY.
Sir, —Your brief report of the
recent conference between the
Traders and the Dandenong Hospital
Committee failed to enlighten the
public upon the most vital point upon
which the committee was asked to
satisfy the traders, and upon which
the traders carried the resolution as
reported in last week’s issue. The
vital point I refer to is that the com
mittee would not, under any circum
stances, support a scheme that
would cost more than £20,000 for
building and equipment, and an an
nual upkeep of from £BOO to £9OO,
as in Stawell, plus interest charge on
£lO,OOO loan, except, perhaps the
cost of the site. Cr. Carroll’s sug
gestion, made three days previous to
the conference, that the public be
fully informed upon this matter so
that no fear would exist that the
community would be burdened with
an enoromus annual expense, as in
some districts, is worthy of the con
sidei'ation of the committee. That
assurance was all that the Traders
required from the committee.
