YOUNG WOMAN GAROTTED.
Miss May Derry, who was garotred in the
pastry cook's shop of Mr Thurgood in Fliuders-
streeton Saturday evening is progressing favor
ably, although still very stiff and sor<- as the re
sult of the severe handling she received. She
was able to come to business this morning, and
is indeed very little the worse for her encounter
with the till thieves. Miss Derry is able to give
a fairly good description of the men who assaul
ted her. A regrettable incident of the affair is
that at the time the assault was committed about
twelve strong able-bodied men were assembled
outside the shop and these made no attempt to
interfere and allowed the thieves to escape.
Their indifference is remarkable considering
that Miss Derry called out twice for help and
when released by the ruffians ran outside calling
out "Thieves, thieves."
