VAN DIEMEN'S LAND.
HOBART TOWN MARKETS, FEB. 14th.—
Wheat, 14s to, 16s per bushel ; barley, (English)
6s to 6s 6d ; ditto, (Cape) 4s to 4s 4d ; oats, (old)
6s 6d to 7s ; hay, (old) 5𝑙. 10s per ton; ditto, (new)
4𝑙. 10s to 5𝑙. ; potatoes, 6𝑙. ; flour, (fine) 40𝑙. to 45𝑙.
Wheat still keeps coming into market very slowly,
which causes the article to maintain the above
high quotation.— Very little wheat has been
brought in, but as the contracts are on the point
of being made known, the price may be expected
to be, in a few days, more regular, and the supplies
more abundant. We understand the tenders
range from 10s to 11s 8d per bushel.
LAUUNCESTON MARKETS.— Wheat, 8s to
10s per bushel.
It may be important to consumers, perhaps, to
know that there is a good stock of sawn and split
timber now on hand. This may be accounted for,
by the great demand of colonial timber at Port
Adelaide and Port Phillip having received a temporary
check from the great importation, from
this colony, within the last six months. The
price of colonial timber has been reduced full
twenty-five per cent, and a further reduction is
likely to take place immediately after harvest.

The price of bread has fallen nearly twenty-five
per cent., this week—we are not aware that a
proportionate reduction has taken place, either
in wheat or flour. The bakers no doubt, will be
able to account for this sudden fall, in the staff of
life. Last week the four-pound loaf, sold for
1s. 6d. ; this week the price is only 1s. 2d. only.
