i THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED.
ALBANY, Tuesday.
. Tho fire on the Gulf of Martaban was extinguished
this afternoon. All last night water was pumped
into tho hold, and as tho hows went down sufficiently
deep, tho porthole was opened, and admitted a flow
of water. By this, means the fire was completely ex
tinguished. The vessol is now aground, with 15 feet
of water in her bold, and the engine room is filled.
Tlie hatches have been removed, and tho cargo is
being moved to allow of an inspection of the bottom.
Much of tho cargo is completely spoiled.
