MARKET REPORTS.
MELBOURNE, FRIDAY, 17tU DECEMBER.
DAIRY PRODUCE.
Butter was largely supplied to-day, but nearly
all of it was in j>oor condition, heated, rank and
sour. Prime factory sold at 8d. to 8Jd. ; excep
tional quality, Dd. There was an abundance of
eggs, and prices were easier, hens' being quoted at
0d. to 9jd., the latter sum for smalt lots; ducks
at 10)d. to lid., and turkeys' lid. to 1/. Hams
were in good demand for the Christmas trade at
late quotations. Carcase pork was a little firmer,
realising 3d. to 5d., while veal sold at Id. to 2d.
There was another large supply of poultry, due to
the approach of Christmas. Hens were easier. The
following were the averages per pair. Turkey
gobblers, in prime condition, 15/ to 20/; others,
12/0 to 14/9; poults, 10/0 to 13/3; turkey hens,
6/3 to 9/0; geese, 4/ to 6/3; goslings, 4/ to 7/;
ducks, 3/ to 4/1; ducklings, 1/0 to 6/0, accord
ing to size and condition; heavy young roosters,
4/9 to 6/; others, 3/3 to 4/0; old, 2/0 to 3/3; hens,
2/6 to 3/; pullets, 2/0 to 3/3; ducklings, 1/0 to
2/3.
