COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
MAITLAND MARKETS, ace.
The past week has been a very busy one, a con-
sequence, no doubt, of the large influx of visitors to
the show Wholesale establishments have been
actively employed in executing orders for the country
and retail houses hove hod their hands full. Carriers
rates are firmer, and there is a disposition evinced to
raise the pnce of carnage. In other respects the
markets remain much the same as advised last week.
Wheat and riour.-We hear of no transactions in
wheat, and flour maintains its value. Adelaide super
hue is quoted at £10 to £16 10s per ton ; fine, £15 ,
household, £14 10s Mill pnces. Superfine, lbs per
cental of 100 lbs., fine, 15s, household, 14s.
Bran and Pollard -These commodities sell at the
following prices Bran, £5 per ton wholesale, 6s per
cental retail ; pollard, £5 5s per ton wholesale, 6s to
7s per cental retail.
Maize.-The market is firm, and the price has a
tendency to harden. From 4s 3d to 4s 6d is the pre-
sent quotation
Fodder -This commodity brings a fair value, and
there is a good sale for well saved samples. The
quotation is the same as given last week, viz, £2 los
to £4 10s per ton. Good sound oaten hay brings
from £4 to £5 per ton. Straw is worth from £2 10s
to £3 per ton, and green lucerneTsells at 5s per load.
Tobacco -Leaf still unobtainable. Coloniol manu- I
factored tobacco is selling at from 2s 4d to 2s 6d per
lb. wholesale, 3s retail, negrohead, 3s lOd to 5s.
Millet brooms ore worth from 10s to 14s per dozen.
Seed oats sell at 2s Gd and 3s per bushel.
Seed barley is in demand, and short supply, at
4s 3d to 4s 9d ptr bushel.
Tallow.-Market quiet. Beef £25 per ton, mutton
£26 to £28.
Soap and Candles -The wholesale pnce of soap is
£2o to £27 per ton, retail, 4§d to 5d per lb. Candles
aro sold wholesale at 6d per lb ; öd retail.
Farm and Dairy Produce.-Butter is in plentiful
supply, at from 8d to lOd per lb. wholesale; lOd to

large quantities, and the prices are firm for all good

£7 to £8 per ton. Onions are very scarce. Wholesale,
20s to 21s per cwt., retail, 4d to 6d per lb. Carrots,
2s per dozen bunches wholesale, 3d per bunch retail,
cucumbers, Cd per dozen wholesale, Id and 2d each
retail, cabbages, 3s to 4s per dozen wholesale, 4d to
8d each retail, French beans, Is per peck wholesale,
13d to 18d retail, pumpkins, os per dozen wholesale,
6d to 9d each retail, vegetable marrows, 4d each
wholesale, 6d retail.
Fruit-Grapes, 2d perlb. wholesale, 3d to 4d retail,

Bread is sellin-j at 4d and 4£d the 2-lb. loaf.
Butchers' Meat.-Beef, 23s per 100 lbs. wholesale ;
best joints and rump steaks, retail, 5d per lb. ; other
joints, 4d per lb. mutton, hind quarter, 4d per lb.
retail ; fore quarter, 4d per lb. ; salt beef, 25s per
100 lbs. wholesale. 4d per lb. retail ; pork, 4d per lb.
wholesale, 6d retail ; corned pork, 6d per lb. ; veal,
6d per lb.
Timber.-The quotations for timber remain unal-
tered. Cedar boards bnng 32s per 100 feet whole-
sale, and are sold at from 4Jd to 5d per foot retail ;
flitch, 20s per 100 feet wholesale; T. and G.
boards range in value from 24s to 29s per 100 feet
for 9 x \ in. and 9 x 1 in boards ; hardwood floonng
boards, 16s per 100 feet wholesale ; weatherboards,
ditto, 15s, scantling and battens, 14s per 100 feet;
shingles, 20s per 1000, laths, 17s to 18s per 1000 ;
slabs, £4 to £5 per 100
