Amongst the successful candidates who passed the

[Evening A'eivs ]-Judge Williams has sent in his
resignation to Government, and proposes to retire
from the bench on the loth April His son, Mr
Hartley Williams, announces his intention to contest
the election for St. Kilda, behe\ mg that Mr. Stephens
will go on the bench ; but some difficulty seems to
render the supposition doubtful.
The returns to the writs for the first batch of
elections give thirteen members for, eight against,
and two neutrals, on the proposed Council Reform
measure.
Green, charged as being connected with the nitro
glycerine explosion, is to be tried.
The P. and O. Co.'s R.M S. Euora has gone into
dock.
[Hirald ]-The resignation of Judge Williams is
to take effect m the middle of April, from ill-heal til,
it is doubtful whether Mr W. Stephen will take the
appointment at the present juncture
