The great mining case Hurley v Greville, is not
yet deoided The Attomej "General this morning
addressed the jury for the defence and Was followed
bv Sir James Martin for the plaintiff His Honor
Mr Justice Cheeke întimnçed that his nhargo to the
jury would take probably two hours, and the case
was accordingly adjourned until to morrow ( Wed-
nesday ) morning The caBe arose out of a transac-
tion in lefeience to a certain copper mine adjoining
the celebroted Peelwood mine Plaintiff was in-
duced bj defendant to pinchase an interest in the
mine for £1000 OD the strength, as he now alleges,
of false representations on defendant's part Both
parties in this case are members of Parliament Mr.
Huxlej is the representative of Central Cumberland,
and Mr Greville, of Bl aulwood

Another practice, almost as dangerous, is that of
allowing children to play with matches. A young
philosopher, aged between three and four years, got
experimenting yesterday with a box-of .vestas,'in the
absence of his parents, and managed to seton fire all
the furniture in an upper room- of a house at Surry
Hills, and but for the energy and activity of the
neighbours in all probability the house would bav e
been .consumed, ae well as the juvenile incendiary

Owing to the large quantities of goods lately pojir;
ing in, the import markets are very dull, and prices
