[Evening ¿V«m.]-The murderers of a person
named Sullivan have taken up a position in the
Nangatui Ranges, near the frontier. They number
about sixty men, and threaten to fight if they are
attacked.
The King refuses to give np the murderers, and
will not reoognlse the confiscated boundary. __"5
I Mr Mackay, who was sent by the Govornment to
interview tlio King, was attacked while Ijmg in his
tent.
Several mlluential tribes condemn tho murder.
The attitude assumed by the Government ia : In
the Hist, to demand the murdeiers from the King,
and, if refused, to pursue and capture them. The
King had wai ned the nativa to keep quiet.
The murderers attempted to implicate the King
party, but failed.
[Herald.]-A horrible murder has been committed
by the Maoris. They atticked three men in a field
at the foot of the I'ukeskohe Range and killed one
of them named Sullivan. After shooting him they
cut off his head »nd took out his heart.
The Government have demanded of the Maori
King that Sullivan's murderers shall be given up
Mr. Mackay has been sent to the King in reference
to this mattei, and in the event of the King refusing
to comply with the demand, it is believed that the
Government will proceed into his territory.
The Daily Southern Cross has been purchased by
a proprietary company.
the Customs levenue of the colonies for the past
quarter shows a satisfactory increase.
