TRUE BLUE NATIONALISM
Soldiers Itemed of Tensions
Strong Pretest filtered
Withdrawal Demanded
MBLBOURXE, Monday—It has cork,
under the notice of the Central .Administration
of the . Returned Sailors and
Soldiers' Imperial -League of Australia
that the Defence Department is issuing
to wrtain returned soldiers a form as
follows:
Notice: As you have been classified
by the medical board as Class "A." viz.
suffering from non-incapacity .as the result
of your services, you are not eii
titled to a >var pension. ' _
The I^eagae oppresses indignation at
tbis new method. The notice'of the
department wonld shut off a man who
resides in the country, and who has not
the adriee readily at hand. .Many a
man would lie thus bluffed out of his
absolute richtsi ,
They claim that the procedure is un
worthy of' a Government: and the withdrawal
of the notice is demanded. How
can such notice be justified? In many
cases illness . contracted on active service
will recur after several weeks, or
even months, and this bluff of the department
would disqualify such man for
a pension.
' It "is understood that the arrest of
Yates "was due to a demonstration whir-h
occurred on the Somali. Private Friend,
of New South Wales, is also in custody.
An inquiry is to be held in Melbourne
to-morrow.
It is-alleged against the two men that
they acted as. leaders of a demonstration
by a number of soldiers on the
Somali, who threatened t otake cliarpre
of the ^ship unless certain demands were
'complied "'with.
