WINNER INTERVIEWED
Overcome with excitement, young
• Dowling said that he was naturally
. proud of having won an important
championship race. He had come to Melbourne
rather diffident, having heard
glowing reports of one or two metro-
Politan cyclists.
One of the first to compliment him
w "as his father, who was naturally everioyed.
Turning to a crowd of officials. Dowling
said: "I owe my success today to
the coaching which I have received during
the last three weeks from Fred Armfield,
tiie Korji Melbourne amateur
cyclist, who. as you know, recentlv broke
several world records behind motor pace
at the Motordrome."
Judged by his riding toaav. Dowling
has a big kold on the Australian championship
to be held over the same course
as today in two weeks' time.
