under th e Food an d .DTygs A ct w ill1

been given him years ago. Both Act
and regulations are In the m ain the
sam e as -those in operation in other
States, so th e day o f the adulterator
an d t h e . fraudulent jiurreyor m ay be
said <to b e a t an end. T h at as, of
course, jf uliere is efficient adm inistration
of the Aot. O n th a t everything
depends. F or th at reason it is satisfactory
do have the adm inistration in
the hands -of the D epartm ent o f Public
H ealth, and though th ere is pow er to
delegate .certain -functions to local
authority am ple m eans are reserved
to enforce the proper doing of the
work. U nder th e regulations the
m anufacturers will have to lodge with
the Treasury a g u aran tee to the re ­
tailer of the purity o f their goods, and
furtherm ore -the goods m u st boar a
statem en t to <thc effect th a t they aro
guaranteed under th e Act. T h e public
for lihcir own protection should make
a note of Hint. In th e p a st there
has been no guaran tee th a t th e public
received w hat they asked for. As a
m atter of fact tbey frequently did not,
an d th a t from no intentional dishonesty
on lihe p a r t of the retailer.

of work will have sto be clone to ensure
a good stan d ard in the food
supply# hut enough m achinery has now*
i boon provided to enforce the intention
o f the Food an d Drugs Act, and beneficial
results ought to be soou apparent.
