Advent
The weeks of Advent still recall
Four thousand years, lest we
forget;
The Advent season bids us all
Prepare to kneel before a stall,
And greet the Babe who paid
our debt.
Then glory, praise and sacrifice
To
Him
Who
doffed
His
royalty;
Who
came on earth in
humble
guise,
To open the gates beyond
the
skies,
And end our endless misery.
—Rev. P. J. Cormican, S.J.
The days are dear, the time not
far,
When in the East will rise the
Star
That leads where love and Jesus
are!
My
hands
are busy.
I
must
bring
To His dear poor an offering:
My birthday
gifts to the sweet
King.
My heart sings softly and is gay—
The Holy Child is on His way,—
Our Little Lord of Christmas Day!
—By Alice
P. Clark, in
Ave
Maria.
