Staff of the1 Governor.—To prepare Go
vernment House, Adelaide, for the a.rival
of Brigadier-General the Hon.. Sir Alex
ander Hore-Ruthven, the mew Governor,
sixteen members of his household staff
have arrived. They disembarked from the
Orsova, which reached Outer Harbor from
London on Saturday. -There were two
chauffeurs, five domestics, two footmen,
a man servant, a^itchenmaid, three house
maids, and two ladies' maids in the party.
Vfckers Tractors.—Mr. E. L. Forrest ad-K
viBes that, in addition to having secured
the agency for Golden Fleece petrol aud
Reo cars and trufcks, he has been ap -
pointed to represent the Vickers tractor '
and Lister lighting plants on Eyre Penin
sula. The Victors tractor is an all-Bri
tish production, and has the Kemdell
James wheel, an Australian invention, iu*v
eluded in its construction. The jvheel is
built with three complete tyre sections,
between which are .placed fixed cleaners, ;
which act as combs, and get right under
neath the mud and comb out in a slic
ing motion the mud which clings to or'
is rising with the wheel, and it is thus
pushed off and sprayed back to the ground.
This is a feature which makes the Keu
dell-James wheel differ essentially and :
fundamentally from all other tractor
wheels on the market. Mr. Forrest is
personally thoroughly conversant with
Electric lighting plants, having for some
years been in the service of the Austra
lian General Electric Company, of Mel
bourne. He has chosen-to represent the"
Lister plant because he is convinced it is
the most suitable and economical for
general farm, station, and household use.
Whilst in Melbourne Mr. Forrest directed
the whole of the installation of.the light
ing plant at the PrincedS Theatre, and
his triumph was proclaimed by patrons
and press throughout the city. He earned
the title of electric "fan," hence any ad
vice he offers to West Coast clients can"
be relied upon. Mr. Forrest's address is
Port Lincoln, but he is at present making
one of his periodical visits to West Coast
towns.
Archdeacon of Eyre Peninsula.—At the
patromal festival service in St.- Thomas'
Church last Sunday the Right Rev. Dr.
R. Thomas (Bishop of Willochra) handed
to the Rev. H. L. Snow his licence as
Archdeacon of Eyre Peninsula. . Arch
deacon Snow was for sixteen years rector
of St. Thomas', in which position he was
srfceeeded on December 31 by the Rev.
W. M. Davies. . For a year Archdeacon
Snow acted as Vicar-General. The Bishop
said that the honor had been conferred
on the new archdeacon as an appreciation
of his past faithful service, and with the
knowledge that his energy of mind>.' and
body, although he had retired from actual
parochial work, would enable him to serve
the church as effectively as archdeacon.
This is the first appointment of an iftch
deacon for Eyre Peninsula.
G.F.S. Novelty Dance.—The Girls'
Friendly Society is to be congratulated
on the success of its dance at the insti
tute on Wednesday. There was a very
large attendance, and everything that
could be done to entertain was done
by very efficient workers. The ordinary
dance programme was pleasurably varied
by the introduction of several folk dances,
excellently executed by a body of clever
young ladies. Miss R. Grave, the instruc
tress, was very successful in obtaining a
charming result. The dances were dis
tinguished for a nonchalant bonhommie,
graceful gyrations, .and ari absence of hesi
tation and stiffness so often seen in ama
teur efforts. Kemp's Jazz Band and an
excellent supper added to the attractions
of the evening. The financial results were
■ quite satisfactory.
