MR. ALEX JOHNSTON.
Mr. Alex Johnston, 83, of Wilton,
died on Monday. Eldest son of late
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Johnston, he was
born on September 27, 1861, and was
only a little boy when came with his
parents from Gawler to Angaston. A
keen horseman, he owned some fine
hunters. He was a grazier and took
a pride in his stock, which included
many high quality animals. Golden
Gate mine was on his property, four
tons of material from these diggings re-
turning 36 ounces of high-purity gold.
On October 12, 1899, he married Har-
riett, youngest daughter of late Mr.
and. Mrs. Chas. Crane, Craneford,
and she died in 1935. Mr. Johnston
had been in hospital for about five
months.
Rev. G. L. Lockley ministered at
the funeral at Angaston on Tuesday,
bearers being Messrs. B. Randall, C.
Evans, R. Sibley and R. Batten.
There are three sons and three
daughters: Ron, Lyall and Lance, all
of near Angaston; Doris (Mrs. R.
Vorter), Jamestown; Thelma and
Hazel, Angaston. Mr. George John-
ston, Gawler, is a brother.
