UNDECIDED CHALLENGE.
MELBOURNE, March II.
At the Exhibition Oval on Saturday night
a challenge cycling race between H.- Miliisgtoti
(Tat.) and J. L. Fitzgerald (Vic.), over a
mile, half mile,"and 8 quarter mile, attracted
prcat Interest. ' Tbe result is still in doubt.
The' Tasmanian won the mile heat by about
three inches. The second lieat went to Fite
gcrald, who was quicker off the mark. Tbe
Victorian got .in ' front, and made a dangerous
mistake of continually looking back. He won
by a length, but tbe stewards declared it no
race, and the run-off was postponed. F. Okeefe
(Tas.) defeated J. Atkins by two lengths in
a contest over distances of one, two, and
three miles. Harris- Border (SAW.) von
the three-quarter mile wheel race of £50 by
a length.
