She has signed on for the voyage to Queens

Miss Ridgway Came
Into prominence about
ten years ago because
of her swimming ability.
At different times she
held the 100 and 220

Mm Myrla Rldgway

and a few months ago she wrested the SO
yards title from Miss Laurel Shieis.
About five years ago she was an -entrant
in the Miss Australia competition, and went1
to Sydney as the accredited South Australian
representative. She finished well up in the
competition, which was won by Miss Beryl;
Mills, of We6t Australia.
Miss Ridgway won many similar compe

the Miss Solyptol contest.
Last season she became an instructor at
the City Baths, and thus lost her amateur
status. However a few months ago she was
re-instated. Latterly, as Adiva, she had
been giving swimming demonstrations in a
glass aquarium at Glcnelg.
GOING TO SEE SISTER |
She has a married sister in Scotland, and
it is largel- because she wishes to see her
that she is making the romantic trip.
Miss Ridgway's voyage recalls that made
by Miss Jeanne Day. another South Austra
lian girl, who went home on the wheat ship
Herzogin Cecilic.
While that vessel was at Port Lincoln she
made several attempts to get on board but
each time was thwarted. It was thought
she had given np the idea, but after the ves
sel had been at sea several dayB 6he appeared
on deck. She had stolen on board and
stowed away.
