really and truly desirous of helping our

waya in which that can be done besides
(perhaps better than) "collecting"for it. I.

of its work. To each "oolleatora" weoannot
do lees than giveour grateful thanks.
The next matter t wish to mention is
that of the badges. It does not seem
to be dearly understood that twopsnoe
must be paid for eaoh badge mow supplied
by itsslf—that ia, without the "Sunbeam
Clot" picture, The reason why the first thou
sand badges were issued free is that they
were paid for by the profit on the "Sunbeam
dot" pictures and no extra eost for postage
waa incurred. As each badge oosts one penny
to make, and there is postage to be added to
that, and as we oould not d raw upon the foods
of the Society, it teems only fair that the
members should pay for them. I don't think
for one moment that any member would ob
jeot to doing so j it is only that, as I have
said, it waa not olearly understood, I
think, that payment was required.
In • number of inetancea where the
badge - form waa sent in with the
form for membership, I have deducted 2d.
from the amount of the contribution, ao as to
aave tho trouble of oolleoting 2d. for the badge
afterwards. I am reminded that car third
epeoi&l " Badge-Day" ia drawing near— Sep
tember 1, tha Foundation Day of our Sooiety.
I want the Secretaries of the Circles to please
. find out those of their memhere who are with
out badges, and send their names to joe at
onoe. I expect that by the anniversary our
membership will be not far short of 3.009,
andX therefore want just as many badges to
be worn that day.
The third matter that I wish to apeak about
has to do with money also, eo that I am
afraid you will think thia a most mer

tributions yon tend in from tame to time.

Dear TJnele Harry—This morning when we got op |
the Blaukrock Hill was covered with snow. My j

no,and they are going to bring ua home some snow. !
Our teacher is helping ns to get up a bazaar. There j
are ten Sunbeams in Erskine. We wear our badges j
every Sunday when *> go to Sunday-school. Good

conelne. I am. vour loving Niece.

It is my sorrowful duty to record mo uoath
of a "Sanboam," Niooe Vara Ebmcke, aged i
IS years 8 months, who died on Sunday last'
after but a brief illness, I understand that i
Nieoe Vera was quite well little more than a j
week ago, eo that her death must coma as a j
terrible shook to her parents and friends. Let
us lovingly remember them and Nieoe j
Emma lihmoke, her alder sister, who is ]
an Associate of our tiooiety. One of ]
our Sunbeams, in conveying the end news to '
me, says i—" The first gap in our ranks." But |
is it a gap, dear Sunbeams ? That it what it ]
seems to ns to be, and that it why we are
sorrowful. But dear Nieoe Vera is still a
Sunbeam, only her light is shining now in ;
heaven. Let that beautiful thought cheer t)s ,
and inspire us, so that we too may some day '
shine as the stars for ever."
I have again to auknowledge a number of
gifts. It really seems, dear Sunbeams, that
you intend to keep up a oonstant supply.
The Secretary {Nieoe Phemie Morris, F.M.)
of the " Ghaklus Kinqsley" 3.0. at
Angle Vale sends three Aeatly made
bsdjaokets for the' Children's Hospital;
six very pretty woollen caps oame from the

"lovely" (that's Aunt Sophie's word) kapoo
quilt, a nightdress, petticoat, two woollen'
caps, and seven wool balls from the"JTatiBS 1
Garfield" S.O. at Prospect. Then Nieoe ;
Lilly Ljokyer, F. M., Secretary of the " Via- ;

Children's Hospital three aaps; and Associate
Niece Metha Fisoher, F.M , Seoretary of the i
" BbtAwt Ohahms Seepasssos" 3.O., left i
six jackets at the same institution, Some of j
themembers of " Thk Acacias"3.0. paid a ;
visit to the Crfiche and took some pinafores :
they bad made before Aunt Sophie's letter
appeared. Assooiate-Niece Nellie Watt, j
F.M, tells me that they thoroughly <
enjoyed the visit, and there is no doubt that
the tiny little inmateB enjoyod being visited ; '
