SUGGESTED COMBINED SERVICE.
ft W. J. Eddy, representing tlie
Council of Churches, called upoii tiie
Postmaster-Geiieral to-day, and ftated j
that he personally was pleased with
the suggestion made by Mr Thomas
that there should be a combined
church memorial service. Anything
that could be adopted, the free
churches to carry the arrangements
into effect, would be done. He had
seen Archbishop Clarke, who, how
ever, could not state definitely at the
time whether the Anglican Church
could join. 'There were some diffi
culties,' added Mr Eddy, 'in the vay
of the Roman Catholic Church taking
part.' It was pointed out by Dean i
Plielaii that tbe Catliolie service for
the dead was the mass. That could
not be celebrated in any place but
the church. The prayers of all the
Catholics would be offered for the
King's soul.
