HOCKEY
OLD SCHOLARS DEFEAT SCO
TTSDALE, 3—2.
ThiB match was most interesting,
but not from the point of view of
hockey, as rain which had only Just
ceased made the ground somewhat
slippery, and resulted in poor hoc
key during the firet half- J. Par
sons scored two clean goals for Old
Scholar*, who played one short
throughout. After the interval, play!
Improved on the fast drying ground,
and Old Scholars forwards, espec
.illy N. Whitehead, did some excel
lent work. I. Steele Increased the
score by one goal. A. splendid de
fence was sustained for Scottsdale by
L. Miller and B, Burrows. Hard
work by E. Lade and M. Beattic then
resulted in the former scoring Scui
ttsdale's first goal, and 'this was soon
followed by a second by M. Beattie
Old Scholars In the meantime failed
to score again, and M. Beattie Just
missed shooting from a pp-ss across
the goal mouth which would have
evened the scores Just, before time.
Old Scholars forwards played bet
ter than usual In the second hnlf, I
Steele being particularly Improved,
and N. Whitehead being outstanding.
Q. IloBe and B Northeast played
well. For Scottsdale M. Harvey is
doing particularly good work, and
1b capable of becoming a really good
player. L Miller played well with
occasional laptQB to high balls, pro
bably accounted for by the state of
the ground. Misses E. Rocher and
M. Steele gave every liatisfaction as
umpires.
