On Friday last a successful demonstration was given
on the Wongong property owned by Mr. O. E. W. Bruns
(by his kind permission) by Messrs. Dalgety Cr Co. Ltd.
The unit demonstrated was the Cooper, comprising a motor driving a
rotary pump. t
Among: those who attended
were several local fire control
officers who all agreed the
plant was most effective.
The full procedure of fire
fighting was gone through in
fch ^following order. Two 44
gallon drums were loaded
onto a utility which was
driven to a creek, where the
time taken to fill each with
the unit was approximately
2A minutes. It.w^s then found-j
that with one hose 'in opera-1
tion a drum .lasted approxi
mately 15 minutes, and with
twtrin use, approximately 8
minutes.
Each hose is equipped with:
a spray and jet.nozzle, the
jet being ideal for trees, etc.,
while the spray, for grass
fires.
While putting out-a section
of a firebreak lit for demon
stration a man using a hose
with the jet nozzle affixed
went first along the face of
the fire while a second man
using a hose with the spray
nozzle attached * followed a
few yards behind, a positive,
extinguishing resulting.
Ail who attended whole
heartedly agreed that the
Cooper unit Is indeed a great
asset to the man on the land.'
