DTJNEDIN (N.Z.).
(from our own correspondent.)
A MEETING was held at the Synagogue Chambers on Sunday,
11th April, for the purpose of forming a Jewish Social Club.
There was a poor attendance owing to the threatening appearance of
the weather. Mr. S. Jacobs took the chair, and briefly explained
the purpose of the meeting. After discussion it was decided that a
committee be appointed for the purpose of furthering the object in
view, and I hear that so far the committee have made very good
progress.
Passover has come and gone. The Motxos were this year
made in Christchureh, by Auslebrook and Co., under supervision of
the Rev. A. Chodowski, and have been universally pronounced as
good, if not better, as any yet imported.
It is with feelings of regret that I have to record the sudden death of
Mr. Morris Hepner. He carried on business as a tailor in the city.
It appears he went to a neighbour's to see the evening paper. While
there he made a peculiar remark about a court case that had been
left sitting, saying that a man may never live to see the finish. A
few minutes afterwards he fell down and expired. Mr. S. Goldsiein
conducted the funeral service in the absence of the Rev. B. Litchten
stein, who is at present away on a trip for his health.
